Frugal Valentine’s Day Ideas: What Can I Do On Valentine’s Day For A Low Budget?
Because the pandemic has left us with less options than usual, I will try to focus on frugal Valentine’s Day ideas that work in a lockdown.
Furthermore, the ideas presented in this post are quick and easy to put together.
If you are a last minute gift-giver, these ideas will only take one day or less.
1. Make Their Favourite Supper At Home
One of the best frugal ways to let your partner know you care is to make their favourite supper.
I mean, food is something you have to spend money on anyways.
So, staying in to make a nice dinner is the perfect frugal way to celebrate Valentines Day.
All you have to do is buy ingredients in advance from the grocery store, look up a recipe online, and spend the time to make it.
Even if your cooking skills are subpar, the effort will be appreciated.

2. Write a Personalized Card
Another frugal Valentine’s Day idea is to write a personalized card.
For less than $5 to $10 dollars, you could buy a card and write a personalized love note inside.
Alternatively, if you want to spend even less, you could make your own card.
3. Print Out Photos and Buy a Frame
Another affordable idea with a high return on sentimental value is getting a photo framed.
You just need to find the perfect photo of you and your (insert nickname).
If you visit Walmart, you can print out photos directly from your smartphone.
Then, all you need to do is buy a frame from Walmart or a dollar store.
For less than $20, this could easily be one of the most sentimental gift ideas on this list.
4. Buy Chocolate
Chocolate is a natural aphrodisiac that is perfect for Valentine’s Day.
Actually, chocolate is perfect for everything.
It’s cheap, available everywhere, and almost everyone enjoys it.
So, at the very least, get your partner their favourite chocolate bar.
5. Give a Massage
If you are so frugal you don’t want to spend any money at all, you could give your partner a massage.
Pretty much everyone enjoys a massage, especially as they get older.
It’s a simple way to connect and show you care to put in the effort.
Plus giving massages costs nothing.
6. Watch Their Favourite Show or Movie
Even if you and your significant other have similar tastes, you are bound to differ in some areas.
To show them that they are important to you, you can take more interest in their interests.
On Valentine’s Day, this means you could watch one of their favourite shows or movies instead of making it all about yourself.
7. Create an I.O.U.
Ultimately, fiat currency is a piece of paper with a value because we trust that it has value.
Since all great relationships are built upon trust, you could create your own piece of paper with its own value.
In other words, give your partner an I. O. U ( I owe you).
I’m not going to tell you what you give them, that’s up to you.
But you could make a promise to give them something or provide something in the future…
8. Help Them Do Something They Are Passionate About
Similar to watching their favourite T.V. show, if you have a partner that is passionate about their work or hobby, you could spend time on it with them.
For example, if your partner is a blogger, you could help them edit a post or provide feedback.
If your partner is interested in education and career development, you can talk about it with them and help them find opportunities.
9. Clean the House
Even if it’s not your routine cleaning day, you could clean the house as a nice gesture, if you live together.
Who doesn’t appreciate a nice, clean place?
Then, you and your sweetheart can spend the day together in a sparkling clean household.
10. Make Something With Your Hands If You Are Crafty
If you are naturally crafty, then frugal Valentine’s Day ideas are probably a joke.
You could make your own card or create some other sentimental gift to show you care.
Putting in the effort will be more appreciated than buying something.
11. Use Credit Card Points To Book or Order Something
If we were not in a pandemic, I would tell you to use credit card points to book a hotel.
Since it’s not the best time to be travelling, you could use your credit card points to buy your partner a present.
This way, you can avoid spending but still technically spend a lot of money on a really nice gift.
Travelling isn’t going to be normal for a while anyways. So, you might as well use your points.
12. Create a Music Playlist
Once upon a time, I used Naptser to make my own CD’s.
But now that we have music streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music, you can create playlists from your smartphone.
So, if you know your partner is a huge fan of a particular artist, make them a playlist and listen to it with them on vday.
13. Spend Quality Time On A Walk
If it’s a nice enough day, a great way to spend this year’s Valentine’s Day is just going for a walk.
Unfortunately, the pandemic limited most of the options for going out in 2021.
But you can still go for a nice, long walk with your S.O.
Talk, get exercise, hold hands, and enjoy each other’s company.
Final Thoughts
Personally, I’ve always thought it is more meaningful to celebrate your relationship randomly.
You shouldn’t have to wait for Valentine’s Day to do something special for the person you are with.
After all, Valentine’s Day is just another day for overspending.
But it’s still nice to acknowledge and spend quality time with your significant other.
Fortunately, there are plenty of frugal Valentine’s Day ideas for you to save money while still showing your partner you care.
